This mandate is closed: applications were accepted until October 14, 2026 at 1 p.m. (UTC-0400).
A major federal public sector organization is building a cyber assurance program for the embedded systems of its land vehicle fleets, from acquisition through in-service support. The mandate is to bring the vetronics expertise the program lacks: understanding the on-board electronics of the vehicle variants in service, deriving the security requirements that go into acquisition documents, and anchoring cybersecurity in the materiel acquisition and support processes.
What defines the mandate
- A senior advisory role, alongside equipment management teams and project teams, in a division that acquires and supports land vehicles.
- On-site work in the National Capital Region, with occasional travel within Canada.
- Roughly eleven months, full time, starting late October 2026.
The scope
- Technical advice on the vehicles' embedded sub-systems: computers, microcontrollers, on-board electronics and CAN bus communications.
- Analysis of existing vetronics systems from the fleets' technical documentation, and process recommendations that strengthen acquisitions.
- Drafting system security requirements and cyber acquisition artifact templates, intended for the projects' contractual deliverables.
- Contributing to assessments of acquisition and support processes from a systems security engineering standpoint, with industry among the stakeholders.
- Recommendations on maintenance strategies and support requirements, seen from cybersecurity.
What is required
- Five years of experience, gained in the last ten, in a vetronics and military land vehicle architecture advisory role, in the defence industry or in government, including low-level coding of vetronics systems and the qualification of cryptographically secure protocols over legacy CAN buses.
- Five years, in the last ten, in the defence industry, applying a NIST-based cybersecurity risk management model to embedded military land systems.
- Dated mandates, showing the role held, the period and the platforms.
- Professional English, spoken and written.
The process
- Screening on the form answers and on the resume.
- An interview with the client.
